Mai Chau – Serene Rice Valleys and White Thai Villages
Mai Chau Valley is a peaceful mosaic of emerald rice paddies, bamboo stilt houses and mountain ridges, inhabited primarily by the White Thai ethnic minority. Just 135 km southwest of Hanoi (3–3.5 hours), it is one of the most accessible hill-tribe destinations in Northern Vietnam. Visitors can cycle through the valley, stay overnight in a traditional stilt house, attend a cultural performance with traditional music and dance, and trek to remote Hmong villages in the surrounding hills. Pom Coong and Lac villages are the most visited. The valley is photogenic year-round but is most beautiful in the rice-harvest season (September–October).
